Unlike alcohol marijuana has never been shown to cause an overdose death nor does it share the addictive properties of tobacco. Like any drug marijuana can be harmful if abused but jail cells are inappropriate as health interventions and ineffective as deterrents. The first marijuana laws were enacted in response to Mexican immigration during the early 1900s despite opposition from the American Medical Association. Dire warnings that marijuana inspires homicidal rages have been counterproductive at best.
Vacaville may nix medical marijuana

City staff is recommending a “just say no” approach to marijuana dispensaries in the city and council members will be asked to adopt a 45-day urgency moratorium at tonight’s meeting. The city would use the time to prepare a study on medical marijuana dispensaries and to consult with the city attorney. The staff report warns that if the dispensaries are allowed to operate in the city without appropriate staff review they could conflict with requirements in the city’s general plan zoning ordinances and forthcoming city regulations. Some cities have already taken strides to prevent such facilities from being established.

Robert Gibbs 27 had blood on his face and shirt when officers stopped him as he was pulling out of a driveway in the 300 block of Stanley Road in the Ellet area of Akron. fficers say they found Danielle Riley 24 also of the Stanley Road address running through backyards with injuries to her face.
