Bolt apologizes over marijuana use comments

German newspaper Bild recently quoted Bolt as saying “When you’re a child in Jamaica you learn how to roll a joint. ” for which Bolt apologized in a statement in Kingston. “I want to apologize to the Jamaican people if at anytime it may have come across that all young people roll a joint” the statement said. “I would also like to urge the upcoming stars to stay away from any kind of drugs as it is not of any value to them or the sport you participate in” the 22-year-old said in the statement.

975 “An Act To Establish the Maine Medical Marijuana Act. The bill clarifies who may use medical marijuana sets up a card ID program for patients and creates a framework for nonprofit dispensaries of medical marijuana. Here is the bill’s summary: Current law allows a person who has been diagnosed by a physician as suffering from certain medical conditions to possess marijuana for medical use. This initiated bill changes the description of the medical conditions for which the medical use of marijuana is permitted. It directs the Department of Health and Human Services to issue registry identification cards to patients who qualify to possess marijuana for medical use and to their designated primary caregivers. It sets limits on the amount of marijuana that may be possessed by qualifying patients and their designated primary caregivers. It allows the establishment of nonprofit dispensaries to provide marijuana to qualifying patients and directs the Department of Health and Human Services to issue a registration certificate to a nonprofit dispensary that meets certain criteria.

John Lynch says he shares law enforcement’s concern about the potential for abuse if residents with crippling ailments are allowed to grow and use small amounts of marijuana. Lynch said he’s open to allowing marijuana use in hospitals or hospices because they are contained controlled environments. He acknowledged current federal drug laws would make that scenario unlikely. The House-passed bill would allow severely ill patients or their caregivers to grow and possess six marijuana plants six seeds and two ounces of the drug. It requires doctors to certify a patient has a debilitating medical condition and would benefit from the therapeutic or palliative benefit from using marijuana. Copyright 2009 The Associated Press.
