Amsterdam to close many brothels marijuana cafes

The city says it wants to thwart organized crime and it is targeting businesses that “generate criminality” including prostitution gambling parlors “smart shops” that sell herbal treatments head shops and “coffee shops” where marijuana is sold openly. The city already had plans to close many brothels and said previously it might close some coffee shops but the plans announced Saturday go much further. The city says it plans to spend euro30-euro40 million ($38-$51 million) to bring hotels restaurants cultural organizations and boutiques to the area.

Another HISD teacher arrested in marijuana case

In at least one case prosecutors did not bring charges. Last week two employees were arrested for a second time. Also an assistant principal from Sharpstown High School was charged with felony possession of marijuana after authorities said he was growing the drug at home.

A 15-year-old boy brought the brownies to school and gave them to the students who subsequently became sick said Bob Nunez East Side Union High School District superintendent. “I don’t know if the students knew what was in them when they ate them” Nunez said. “But they got sick right away. “Nunez said the boy was arrested and taken to Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall.

The city says it wants to drive organized crime out of the neighborhood and is targeting businesses that “generate criminality” including prostitution gambling parlors “smart shops” that sell herbal treatments head shops and “coffee shops” where marijuana is sold openly. “By reduction and zoning of these kinds of functions we will be able to manage better and tackle the criminal infrastructure” the city said in a statement. It said it would also reduce a number of business it sees as related to the “decay” of the center including peep shows sex shows sex shops mini supermarkets massage parlors and souvenir shops. The city said there were too many of these and it believes some are used for money-laundering by drug dealers and the human traffickers who supply many of the city’s prostitutes.

Mayor Job Cohen’s promise to lobby the Justice Ministry to give Amsterdam an exception came after city leaders overwhelmingly voted to challenge the issue. They argue the cafes are already so closely watched they don’t need new rules to keep children away. Cohen told national broadcaster NOS that “if there are other possibilities” to an outright ban “then we’d like to look at them. “City aldermen want Amsterdam to relax a proposed ban on the cafes within 250 meters (yards) of schools.

Ex-NBA basketball player Corie Blount arrested on drug count

Deputies watched as the U. Postal Service delivered a package containing 11 pounds of marijuana to a Liberty Township address northwest of Cincinnati on Thursday. When the 39-year-old Blount picked up the package agents followed him to his home and served search warrants on the home and the address where the package was delivered Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones said. At Blount’s home deputies found a second 11-pound package of marijuana and another package containing about seven pounds of marijuana Jones said.
