The farmers appealed, hoping for a ruling that hemp “is not subject to regulation by the DEA and that our farmers aren’t going to be charged with a crime,” says Tim Purdon, a Bismarck lawyer who represents the farmers. “It’s really frustrating for these farmers to look across the border and see Canadian farmers growing it and making a living from it,” he says. The district judge should not have dismissed the case without hearing evidence about the differences between hemp and marijuana, adds Washington lawyer Joe Sandler, who will argue the farmers’ case before the appeals court. The lawsuit is funded by Vote Hemp, a Washington lobbying group that seeks to legalize hemp farming. The group has spent about $100,000 on the lawsuit, says spokesman Adam Eidinger. Wayne Hauge, the other farmer who brought the lawsuit, says farming hemp won’t lead to legalizing marijuana. “I personally have never smoked marijuana and don’t want to,” says Hauge, whose Ray, N.

Those arrested in Texas are Jett Clifton, 23, Patrice Le, 36, Sabrina Satterfield, 23, and Michael Watkins, 21, all of Dallas; Brian Dobbs, 28, and Hieu Le, 21, both of Grand Prairie; Michael Atchley, 22, and Chu Yoo, 32, both of Euless; Ruben Gutierrez, 30, of Plano; Long Tran, 21, of Arlington; and Peter Tran, 21, of Garland. Authorities accuse them of conspiring to distribute hundreds of thousands of ecstasy tablets beginning in January 2006. Scott Goldstein DeSoto Police find pot plants in home; man arrested Police investigating a report of a burglary in a south DeSoto neighborhood Thursday morning found something entirely unexpected next door: a marijuana farm. When police arrived to investigate the report in the 500 block of Warbler Drive, officers noticed an open backyard fence door and someone inside the adjoining residence. When they entered the foreclosed home, they found 30 to 40 small marijuana plants – each 3 to 4 feet tall – growing inside two elaborate hydroponic systems with lights and plastic containers. Police said they also found eight larger plants, some of which had been harvested, with the illegal substance wrapped in plastic bags for distribution. The man inside was arrested on outstanding warrants.
