Michael Duvall, 377th Air Base Wing commander, and representatives from the National Nuclear Security Administration Service Center decided to temporarily suspended operations at the childcare center after the workers were cited Tuesday. NDLEA intercepts policeman, four others with Indian hemp
Vanguard, Nigeria
The NDLEA commander disclosed that the statements made by one of the drivers revealed that the policeman was an accomplice who had been involved by serving as escort to a particular drug baron at Abbi in Delta State. He noted that the statement by one of the drivers however contradicted the position of the policeman who earlier allegedly claimed during interrogation by operatives of the agency when he was arrested that he did not know that the vehicle in which he was traveling was conveying such drugs. Ihebom disclosed that his command since January 11, 2008 when his command destroyed 67,000 kilogrammes, had seized over 100,000 kilogrammes of cannabis from recalcitrant barons. Besides, he disclosed that the Edo command had 25 convictions in the Federal High Court, Benin, while 60 other cases against some people arrested with drugs, mostly Indian hemp, in state were being pursued in the court. The NDLEA commander who raised alarm at the desperation and negative ingenuity of the traffickers, announced that the anti-drug agency would commence a nationwide awareness campaign designed to reduce the scourge of drug abuse and trafficking in the society, stating that the awareness campaign was being planned in consonance with the position of the United Nations that arrests and prosecution alone had not proved to be enough deterrent to the disturbing drugs scourge in the society. He explained that the aim of the campaign was to discourage interest in the drugs saying a reduction in demand for the destructive drug would naturally culminate in a drop in supply and therefore the incidence of trafficking. The driver of one of the vehicles who gave his name as Emmanuel, a father of two, said that he was engaged by a drug baron at Abbi to be transporting the drugs from Ondo to Delta State for a fee of N35,000 as a monthly salary.
