BOSTON (AP) Pro-marijuana advocates gathered for an annualrally on Boston Common as voters weigh a ballot question that wouldease penalties on pot possession. Police made six arrests at the rally, held to call for thelegalization of the drug. The mood among the revelers Saturday was upbeat at thepossibility that voters might back the ballot initiative, whichwould make possession of up to an ounce of marijuana a civiloffense punishable by a $100 fine. Supporters say it would reduce the burden on the criminaljustice system by sparing those found with small amounts fromfacing a criminal record and jail. But critics, including the state’s 11 district attorneys, say itwould lead to more drug abuse among young people.
