200 lbs of Marijuana Seized in Drug Raid

The raid took place on East Thompson Lane and Browning Drive early Thursday morning. Metro Police Captain Michele Donegan said officers received information that a large amount of marijuana was scheduled to be delivered to a home in the area. “They did locate approximately 200 pounds of marijuana, $19,500 in cash. They also seized a 2004 Ford Dooley, as well as a 40 foot travel trailer that had the bulk of the marijuana hidden inside,” said Donegan.

Also aided by the Poinsett County Sheriff’s Department, the unit covered the entire county by air and ground, according to Poinsett County Sheriff Larry Mills, and did not find any marijuana growing. “The state police contacts the sheriff’s department and lets us know when they will be coming to the county with the eradication unit,” said Mills. “It’s then up to me to contact the chiefs of police in the cities and advise them of the date and to find out about any tips they may have received about growing operations in their areas.

Seneca County drug agents seize marijuana plants

Officials with the task force’s METRICH Enforcement Unit said the plants have a street value of $132,000. Investigators used a helicopter from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office to help locate the plants. “Tips from area farmers and citizens assisted officers with successfully confiscating the marijuana plants,” said Sgt. Donald Joseph of the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office.
