Man faces charge on cannabis factory find
WalesOnline, United Kingdom
Police executed a search warrant, under the Misuse of Drugs Act, on Ynyshir Road on Monday, August 4. Twenty-five cannabis plants were discovered growing inside the property and a large amount of heating and lighting equipment was found. A 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of cultivating the plants and he is currently on police bail. Sergeant Gary Black of South Wales Police said the raid will have a major effect on the availability of cannabis in Rhondda. “We have acted on information from the public and via Crimestoppers,” said Sgt Black. “This seizure has had a major impact on the availability of cannabis in the Rhondda.

DEA Unearths Illegal Marijuana Operation in National Parks
ABC News
Large expanses of the Northern California wilderness, typically used for camping and fishing, have been replaced by manicured rows, consisting of tens of thousands of marijuana plants. Marijuana is being grown illegally on national park land in seven states: California, Tennessee, Washington, Oregon, Kentucky, Hawaii and West Virginia, according to the Office of Drug Control Policy.

Marijuana law changes sought
Ukiah Daily Journal, CA
The existing ordinance declares anyone growing more than 25 marijuana plants a public nuisance, as well as any cultivation within 1,000 feet of a school. Prosecution is handled through civil action, either by neighbors or a code enforcement officer. Speaking for the coalition, Ukiah resident Larry Puterbaugh asked the board to amend the ordinance to classify any marijuana that can be seen or scented from properties adjoining the grow a nuisance and make violations of the ordinance punishable as criminal misdemeanors. “Public health and safety requires that marijuana should be grown only where others can’t see it and can’t smell it,” he said. The coalition was also asking the board to adopt an ordinance that would make it illegal to dispense diesel fuel into unsafe tanks.

Shakedown From Feds Imperils Medicinal Marijuana
The Santa Barbara Independent, CA
Things have changed quickly, however, with the city stepping in earlier this spring to craft an ordinance outlining the dos and don’ts of dispensary operation. Now, just last week, the federal government’s Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and Department of Justice (DOJ) paid a visit to Santa Barbara and threatened the people who rent their properties to California-approved cannabis clubs with hefty fines, property seizure, and criminal charges for violation of federal law. According to local attorney Joe Allen, who sat in on at least one of the several meetings between federal officials and landowners on August 5 and 6 at the Santa Barbara District Attorney’s office, “In very clear terms, they said this is the last warning: The government is going to shut all of these clubs down and the government is going to prosecute anyone involved. ”The visits, which Santa Barbara District Attorney Christie Stanley coyly refused to confirm or deny, leave in their wake a questionable future for the eight or so medical marijuana shops that operate in Santa Barbara and the thousands of patients who visit them each week to seek relief from a wide variety of conditions.

High Times Presents: The 20th Anniversary Cannabis Cup:
DVD Talk, OR
Or NORML terms, for those in the know. (NORML is an American lobbying group; the acronym stands for National Organization for the Reformation of Marijuana Laws. ) At a bare hour in length, this High Times presentation does a great job of summarizing what the Cannabis Cup is all about, details some of the more interesting vagaries of the 20th edition of said competition, and will have pot-heads reaching for their bongs even before the disc leaves the case. Originally a small affair, the Cup has grown to icky-sticky proportions, featuring numerous categories and entrants. Seed company strains are judged, coffee shop strains are judged, counter-culture icons are inducted into a hall of fame, and folks come from around the world.
