Toronto police arrest two officers during crackdown on marijuana …
The Canadian Press, TORONTO
Police Chief Bill Blair says he was very disappointed to learn that two of his officers were allegedly involved in a drug trafficking operation that involved marijuana, ecstasy and steroids. Police seized three houses, five vehicles, $60,000 and almost eight kilograms of marijuana. Blair says the officers’ alleged involvement is more than just a breach of their oath of duty, it’s also a betrayal of their colleagues. The two officers, who have been with the force eight and nine years respectively, have been suspended with pay. The officers and the other suspects are to appear in a Newmarket court Friday.

Huge cannabis bust by police stuns Inglewood locals

What was initially thought to be a $42 million haul quickly grew to an estimated $500 million worth as thousands more plants were discovered, making it Queensland’s - and possibly Australia’s - biggest drug bust. The scale of the operation stunned locals and veteran police from the Cultivated Drug Operations Team. At least 34,000 mature marijuana plants, eight tonnes of dried cannabis, and guns were found in the raid. "There’s more leftover cannabis lying on the ground than you’d find in a big seizure, and about 6. 5km of (water) piping," Detective Acting Inspector Kerry Johnson said. Police yesterday found two empty trunks hidden in one of many caves that dot the rugged hills of Kinvarra. Locals said they had heard as many as six people, thought to be "crop-sitters", had fled into the hills and could be hiding out in the caves.
