School Offers Classes on Cooking with Pot
NPR – Feb 25, 2008
Oaksterdam is the brainchild of Richard Lee. He’s a medical marijuana activist and pot dispensary owner. The curriculum includes everything from lectures on the political and legal history of medical marijuana to the basic botany of cannabis, such as why a grower wants to identify and separate male from female plants. “Generally, you’re going to get rid of the male plants that create pollen that would fertilize the female plants and that’s how you get sin semilla, or seedless cannabis,” Lee says. “It will grow a lot more healthier flowers without the seeds because it’s not putting energy into seeds. Plus you don’t want seeds in your cannabis. It’s like seedless grapes.
Contra Costa expected to permanently ban marijuana dispensaries
San Francisco Chronicle – Feb 25, 2008
(AP) — Contra Costa County officials are expected move to permanently ban marijuana dispensaries in the county. New marijuana dispensaries have have not been allowed to open since the county approved a temporary moratorium in 2006. But with that moratorium lapsing in April, supervisors are expected Tuesday to pass an ordinance that would ban medical marijuana dispensaries in unincorporated areas of the county. There would be on exception to the ban though. A marijuana dispensary in El Sobrante would be allowed to remain open because it applied for a land-use permit before the 2006 moratorium. ___Information from: Contra Costa Times… But with that moratorium lapsing in April, supervisors are expected Tuesday to pass an ordinance that would ban medical marijuana dispensaries in unincorporated areas of the county. "Before taking part, Nicky fully researched the subject andundertook the trials under supervision, with medical advice. "Nicky has not suffered any ill effects since filmingfinished. The film unequivocally highlights the risks of consumingthe drug and will be scheduled post-watershed for a BBC3audience… "But the programme has already attracted criticism. Marjorie Wallace, chief executive of mental health charity Sane, told the Daily Telegraph: "It is difficult to see what can belearnt from this experiment. Cannabis affects no two individuals inthe same way. "The majority of people may have little or no reaction, even to stronger forms of the drug. But for the 10-20 per cent ofthose who are considered to be vulnerable, taking it could lead topsychotic illness.
Editorial: Feds should OK medicinal marijuana use
Albuquerque Tribune – Feb 25, 2008
In spite of a recently passed state medicinal marijuana law – which permits marijuana to be prescribed and used by patients who might benefit from it and to be distributed by the state Health Department – state officials have had to indefinitely suspend their own oversight of the program. That’s because distributing or using marijuana is illegal under federal law, which doesn’t recognize its medical use or state laws that do. State Attorney General Gary King has warned that state officials could get charged with criminal drug possession or distribution by the feds. Bill Richardson properly sent a letter to President Bush asking the feds to back off legitimate state medicinal marijuana programs… In spite of a recently passed state medicinal marijuana law – which permits marijuana to be prescribed and used by patients who might benefit from it and to be distributed by the state Health Department – state officials have had to indefinitely suspend their own oversight of the program. why should i pay to harrass someone that smokes a joint in their own home?
if it were so harmless to people over 18 going by the amount of use going on worldwide, we would have a huge heatlh problem. we see our main problem with the youths and chronioc abusers, which are able to be supplied by an uncontrolled black market. so with cannabis we have the opposite of such useful control like we have with alchohol and tobacco. afterall it is the most widely used illegal drug. it remains the drug of choice for so many millions yet we will all pay for them to be thrown in jail, almost as if in some effort to save those who wish not ot partake. regardless of whether they abused it to the point that they faced or caused society any harms. if you see the money we have spent on this worldwide it is a joke… also with heroin and concaine etc we have the users face greater harms and have them steal of us to pay exorbitant street prices. we use exampoles of tainted drug overdoses to further our argument for keeping it in the black market. have we gone crazy?
for all the use of cannabis we seem to focus very heavily on a few cases and let those fuel our argument for keeping it so heavily punished. if you legalised heroin do we really think that everyone would begin pushing their luck with it. it will and always has been a low percentage that tries it. i certainly wont try it if the government decideds to place controls over it and if my children are moulded in such a way to go astray i’d feel more comfortable to know that it is being controlled and the harms faced are being fed with funding that would otherwise be used to fund courts, lawyers and jailing my children.
