Fla. Road Crew Finds 2 Bags of Marijuana
FOX News - Nov 28, 2007
us TAMPA, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol says anyone missing two big bags of pot can call their Tampa area office. A crew picking up litter along Interstate 4 Tuesday morning made an unusual find: two big plastic garbage bags stuffed with freshly harvested marijuana. FHP Trooper Larry Coggins said the 60 pounds of pot might be worth around $54,000 on the street. It probably fell off or was thrown from a car on the interstate, he said. Coggins said it’s not the largest amount of pot ever dumped along a roadside, but it’s certainly not a common find. Copyright 2007 The Associated Press.

After the trial period, staff will make recommendations to council members on whether to extend the ban up to 22 months. “The problem, from my perspective, is that we have this Compassionate Use Act, but no state laws have been established” to guide cities in its implementation Police Chief Tom Monson said, referring to the voter-approved act that allows marijuana to be dispensed with a prescription. Most recently, Huntington Beach implemented a permanent ban. The moratorium follows a written request to open a dispensary, submitted in October by Mira Knott, who listed a Buena Park business address. In the letter, addressed to the Police Department, Knott included ordinances explaining restrictions in other cities like West Hollywood, which allow medical marijuana.

Watford Observer - Nov 28, 2007
When police raided the home of Terrance Hickey, 52, and his wife, Amanda Andrews, in Shanklin Gardens, South Oxhey, on Friday, July 20, they found almost a third of a kilo of cannabis. In the kitchen police discovered bags of cannabis and foil wraps in ready made deals, with a street value of around £1,000. Both pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply, having initially given no comment interviews to police following their arrest. The basis of the plea, accepted by the prosecution, was that money from the drug dealing was used to pay for the cannabis used by Hickey to alleviate his disease. However, Judge Griffith told the court he did not believe the sole reason for selling the drugs was Hickey’s medication. He said: “It is clear to me you were not just selling to buy more cannabis for Terrance Hickey.

Kha asked for the pot back, and a judge agreed. While medical marijuana is legal in California, it is illegal under federal law… “I’m happy, it’s taken a long time,” he said. “The ruling can help someone else that is in really bad need of access their medicine. ” The case was being watched closely by medical marijuana advocates, who say there have been dozens of such seizures by local law enforcement throughout California. Law enforcement do not know when to follow state or federal law, and end up taking the medical marijuana away from legitimate patients, they say. It’s also an affirmation of state law by the courts. Patients will now have a remedy to get back their marijuana when it is illegally seized,” said Kris Hermes, a spokesperson for Americans for Safe Access, a pro-medical marijuana group that represented Kha. “And hopefully, these seizures will stop.
