Insidious Fix designer guilty over cannabis

Crawford, 35, designer behind the successful knitwear label Insidious Fix, was found guilty in Auckland District Court this afternoon on two charges of cultivating cannabis, one of selling cannabis and nine of receiving stolen property. A jury returned its verdicts at the end of a two week trial. The charges were laid after police raided an Onehunga warehouse in November 2005, where they found $1 million worth of cannabis plants ranging in size from seedlings to fully grown trees. Crawford was remanded in custody to be sentenced at Auckland District Court on February 1 next year.

In one of her final official duties as Divisional Commander of the South Wales Police in the Vale of Glamorgan, Superintendent Sue Hayes took time out to present the operators with special Superintendent’s Commendations. The drugs incident occurred in Barry earlier this year when the CCTV operators observed a disturbance outside a public house. When those involved left the scene the CCTV cameras were able to follow their vehicle’s movements and direct police to where the car was parked. As a result police officers were able to apprehend those involved and recover a large amount of cannabis.

Seven kilos of harvested cannabis were seized in the operation at commercial premises in Avon Street, Bristol. Two men in their 20s and a woman in her 40s were arrested and released on bail pending further enquiries. Further searches took place in the city and Nailsea as part of the operation and more drugs were recovered.

This follows on from the seizure of £1. 2 million worth of skunk cannabis in the last two weeks. Officers from the Drugs Team were called to a property just after midnight following reports of a suspicious man, from an off-duty officer.
