Arnold’s marijuana fig leaf
San Francisco Chronicle – Oct 30, 2007
Arnold Schwarzenegger said marijuana is “not a drug,” press secretary Aaron McLear was quick to announce that Schwarzenegger was joking. During an interview with Piers Morgan, a judge of “America’s Got Talent,” the governator had said that he had never taken drugs, even though he has admitted to smoking marijuana and the 1977 documentary film, “Pumping Iron,” showed him inhaling. So Schwarzenegger quipped, “That is not a drug. My drug was pumping iron, trust me… My drug was pumping iron, trust me. McLear told me that just as Schwarzenegger is more playful when appearing on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” with some TV personalities, Schwarzenegger “says things that are a bit more shocking because he’s playing to the audience. ” And: “The governor was not taking marijuana off the drug list. This was a light-hearted interview. I was hoping that Schwarzenegger was signaling a more sane drug policy for California – one that would direct the state not to waste money on marijuana enforcement, so that police can concentrate on violent crime or drugs that, unlike marijuana, kill people. “The thing about Gov.

Boys expelled for growing cannabis
Stuff.co.nz – Oct 30, 2007
Six have been readmitted to day school. The remaining pupil has had his suspension extended and is to go before the board of trustees in a fortnight. Principal Gary O’Shea said he was pleased with the balanced decision by the board of trustees not to expel all the pupils. “Expelling 11 boys would have sent a message, but not a message a school needs… “Expelling 11 boys would have sent a message, but not a message a school needs. ” Draconian punishment did not change risk behaviour, O’Shea said. Some of the boys had become caught up in the cannabis-growing operation and “were not directly involved in placing others at risk”. O’Shea said the incident highlighted the need to improve the resilience of the boys in resisting temptation. “It’s about character development and the use of counsellors and more in-depth education. ” O’Shea said he was pleased the school’s drug policy was functioning and he hoped those not expelled would now make the most of their education. He said he had spoken to the six boys returning to school yesterday.
NDSU Files Amicus in Support of Hemp Farming Lawsuit
Wisconsin Ag Connection – Oct 30, 2007
Dave Monson and Wayne Hague, who filed a lawsuit in
June to end the U. Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) ban on state-regulated commercial hemp farming in the United
States. In the amicus, NDSU states that since 1999 they have waited for DEA to grant their application to grow non-drug
industrial hemp to create varieties best suited for the North Dakota climate and soil conditions. NDSU contends these farmers should be granted relief from the court, as it is pointless to wait for DEA’s decision on licensing
because the school’s interaction with the DEA shows the federal agency has no intention of cooperating with a premier
agricultural university let alone private farmers.
