All the guns belonged to Marquez. Rodriguez and Zayas stayed in the car, and Marquez went in and stood on his bum leg in the doorway of Johnathan Smith’s bedroom. The only thing Marquez knew about Smith was that he sold marijuana. Smith was born and reared in the Colorado Springs area. He knew his mother as Carol; he never knew his father, Charlie Biggs. The couple passed Johnathan and two other children to Biggs’ parents, Gerald and Shirley Biggs, who gained custody of them. “I wanted him and the other two children to stay together,” said Gerald Biggs, a 20-year Army veteran in the Korean and Vietnam wars.

Within a couple of days, Page had lost his spot on the men’s basketball team and the athletic scholarship that he had hoped would help him surpass his troubled youth in Indianapolis, where he once sold drugs to make money to support a young son. Page pleaded guilty Friday to dealing marijuana, a Class D felony, and now must comply with a strict drug treatment program or face an 18-month suspended prison sentence… Though Kenny Page waited more than a month to learn his legal fate for a charge of dealing marijuana, punishment came quickly at the University of Southern Indiana. The program offers first-time offenders 18 and older a get-out-of-jail-free card, of sorts. In lieu of a court appearance for minor alcohol or marijuana possession charges, their records will be cleared if they follow her guidelines, which can include drug-free living, education classes, community service and whatever else she sees fit. “Whatever problems you go to diversion with, we want to resolve,” said Brown.
