Italian fencer Marco Ciari tests positive for marijuana

The Italian Olympic Committee announced Wednesday that traces of cannabis were found in Ciari's system following a test on July 14 at the Italian fencing championships in Naples. Ciari is currently training with Italy's team for the fencing World Championships, scheduled for Sept. Petersburg, Russia.

Undercover policeman denies giving Mallard cannabis

The officer, known as Gary, is giving evidence to a Corruption and Crime Commission Inquiry which is investigating whether police and prosecutors acted improperly in the lead up to the wrongful conviction of Mr Mallard for the 1994 murder of Pamela Lawrence. Mr Mallard has claimed Gary gave him cannabis and a bong during a three day undercover operation. Gary has told the inquiry he provided the bong as a “prop” to develop a rapport with Mr Mallard. Meanwhile, Gary has admitted giving a piece of jewellery to Andrew Mallard during the investigation of the murder of Mosman Park jeweller Pamela Lawrence. The inquiry has been played a recording from the last day of the undercover operation in which Gary gives Mr Mallard a piece of “costume jewellery” and tells him to “hang on to it”.
