Cannabis-related Schizophrenia Set To Rise, Say Researchers
Science Daily - Science Daily (press release) - Mar 26, 2007
The research study matches historic trends in cannabis use and exposure from a national population survey against estimates of new occurrences of schizophrenia in three English cities (Nottingham, Bristol and the London Borough of Southwark). The researchers assess what might happen to schizophrenia cases if we assume a causal link between cannabis use and onset of psychotic symptoms, an association widely recognised by some psychiatrists and researchers and considered recently by the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs. Exposure to cannabis grew fourfold over the thirty years to 2002, and its use among under-18s by 18-fold, say the researchers. If cannabis use causes schizophrenia, these increases in its use would lead to increases in overall schizophrenia incidence and prevalence of 29 per cent and 12 per cent respectively, between 1990 and 2010. (Incidence is defined as the frequency of new occurrences; and prevalence is the percentage of the population affected by the disease… The research study matches historic trends in cannabis use and exposure from a national population survey against estimates of new occurrences of schizophrenia in three English cities (Nottingham, Bristol and the London Borough of Southwark). Model projections suggest that if the association is confined to heavy cannabis users only, then approximately 10 per cent of schizophrenia cases may be due to cannabis by 2010. However, assuming an association between onset of the disease and both light and heavy users, then approximately one-quarter of new cases could be due to cannabis.

Attorneys, saying that Attorney General Alberto Gonzales needs to decide if he is the nation’s lawyer, the peoples’ lawyer, or “the President’s political flack. ” Richardson is in no quandary over whose interests he serves; he is a puppet of left-wing billionaire George Soros. Richardson took $50,000 from Soros and one of his pro-marijuana front groups and successfully pressured the New Mexico state legislature into passing a fraudulent “medical marijuana” bill that offers false hope to sick people. Meanwhile, a leading British newspaper, The Independent, has now admitted, years after promoting the decriminalization of marijuana in that country, that the drug causes a loss of contact with reality, a condition known as psychosis, and other mental problems. The Independent, which had successfully campaigned to decriminalize the drug in Britain, published a March 18 editorial apologizing for having misled the public. The words, “Cannabis: An Apology,” appeared in large letters on page one. We could well see over the next 10 years increasing numbers of young people in serious difficulties. ” The Independent also quoted Robin Murray, professor of psychiatry at London’s Institute of Psychiatry and an editor of Marijuana and Madness, a scientific work linking marijuana to various psychotic disorders. That marijuana causes mental problems may seem pretty obvious to most people.

Bermuda were in trouble from the first over of their innings, when Stephen Outerbridge hooked wildly at Mashrafe Mortaza and top-edged to Mohammad Rafique at fine leg. Delyone Borden then got a leading edge to the same bowler and was easily taken at mid-off, before left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak had Bermudan captain Irvine Romaine trapped lbw for just 11. David Hemp - top scorer against India - was sent packing for a duck, cutting Syed Rasel straight to Aftab Ahmed at gully. After yet another rain break, Oliver Pitcher skied Saqibul Hasan to captain Habibul Bashar as the innings fell apart. Lionel Cann restored some pride by smashing 16 off six balls before he was bowled by Hasan, with Tucker holing out on the boundary for six as Bermuda desperately sought runs. Pitcher was later taken to hospital after landing awkwardly attempting a difficult running catch off Mohammad Ashraful. Bangladesh's qualification triggered wild celebrations among their players.
