Pot issue’s fate at polls hazy
Denver Post - Oct 22, 2006
Safer Alternative for Enjoyable Recreation launched the campaign to legalize pot after a successful initiative in Denver last year. “Law enforcement should not have to worry about a person smoking a joint in their own house,” said Mason Tvert, SAFER’s campaign director. But not everyone agrees with Tvert and his group, who promote marijuana as a healthier and safer alternative to alcohol use. “Going out on a Saturday night to go buy marijuana is a dangerous affair,” said Denver Police Chief Gerry Whitman, who opposes the amendment, along with most law enforcement agencies. “There are 400 chemicals in marijuana, and some of that marijuana is laced with other drugs, and you don’t know what you’re inhaling into the lungs. Common sense tells you that this is not a healthy initiative. ” Opponents and supporters point to a 9News-sponsored poll from Sept.

Officers carrying out anti-drug patrols stopped a Ford Falcon travelling along the Barrier Highway, about 10km from Cobar, at about 11. 20pm (AEST) yesterday. They found two boxes in the back of the car containing what police believe to be 14kg of cannabis, with an estimated street value of $150,000. The officers also discovered money in the vehicle. A 31-year-old Adamstown man was arrested at the scene and taken to Cobar police station for questioning. He was later charged with having goods in his personal custody suspected of being stolen, possession of a prohibited drug, supplying a prohibited drug and supplying cannabis of a more than indictable but less than commercial quantity. Bail was refused and he is due to appear at Bourke Local Court later today.

Her publicist maintained the bag merely contained tobacco. Carter says, “She relied heavily on drugs and drink to give her confidence in the bedroom and was more often than not too wasted to even perform. ” “I lost count of the nights I had to pick her off the floor and drag her to bed passed out. ” “If she was going overseas she’d cut a hole in her teddy and stuff it with cannabis.

Stunner of the week

Maybe if you mix two weeds and a pumpkin seed, you can accidentally manufacture the stuff. Who knows? The other beauty was the suggestion that Akhtar had used cannabis to "boost his bowling speed". Every year or so, some prize gazebo can be counted on to allege that cannabis, marijuana or hashish are "performance enhancing substances". Maybe, maybe not, but what most people believe they inspire is: a case of the munchies, a tendency to giggle out of context, and bulk purchases of Korn and Monster Magnet albums. BOZO OF THE WEEK FINALLY, living shrunken-head Noel Gallagher wins an award on pure merit — this one. Letting Noel Gallagher speak in public about the Socceroos, Tim Cahill or anything to do with the sport is a lot like polling Vatican officials on their all-time favourite letters to "Penthouse" Forum. Actually, Noel Gallagher talking about music is a lot like that, too.

This Game Is Not ‘It’
Washington Post - Oct 22, 2006
7, it might have a law to prove it. Voters next month will consider an initiative that would make misdemeanor marijuana violations — possession of one ounce or less — the city’s lowest law enforcement priority. Violators would face community service and drug counseling instead of jail time. Similar measures have passed in Seattle and Oakland, but the relaxed law would be one of a kind in Arkansas. It might not be surprising that petition gatherers — supported by the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws — got the measure on the ballot. Residents ‘reported drug lab’
NEWS.com.au - Oct 22, 2006
Residents were evacuated and the NSW Fire Brigade brought the fire under control. A complex hydroponic system was located in the top floor unit during an examination of the building. Police also seized 50 cannabis plants but no one was inside the unit. Next door neighbours Steve Beck and Renee Reid, whose property was ruined by the fire, said they went to police five months ago about the alleged cannabis production. "Renee spoke with the police and we left a statement and that’s about as far as it kind of went," Mr Beck told the Nine Network. "I feel pretty angry at the moment. "
A spokesman for NSW Police Minister Carl Scully said he was concerned by the incident and has asked the assistant commissioner to investigate the claims.
