Wednesday, July 26, 2006Nearly 75 marijuana plants in Caldwell County were among close to $3 million in marijuana eradicated recently in a three-day Kentucky State Police operation in the area, state police said Monday. From Monday, July 17, to Wednesday, July 19, troopers from KSP Post 2 in Madisonville, with support from the KSP Aircraft Section, eradicated a total of 1,473 marijuana plants in Caldwell, Hopkins and Muhlenberg counties. Of those, 74 were located off of Rufus Road in Caldwell County, said KSP Post 2 Public Affairs Officer Trooper Stu Recke. Another 536 plants were located near Morton’s Gap in Hopkins County, and 836 were located near Graham in Muhlenberg County. The marijuana plants were transported to Post 2 headquarters and destroyed… Of those, 74 were located off of Rufus Road in Caldwell County, said KSP Post 2 Public Affairs Officer Trooper Stu Recke. Another 536 plants were located near Morton’s Gap in Hopkins County, and 836 were located near Graham in Muhlenberg County. The marijuana plants were transported to Post 2 headquarters and destroyed. The estimated value of the destroyed plants is about $2,946,000, Recke said. No arrests have been made at present, he added. State police are continuing the investigation. State police will continue their marijuana eradication efforts throughout the summer.

Smith reports the July 26, 2006 arrest of a Town of Philipstown resident for possession of marijuana-related paraphernalia. According to the Sheriff’s Department, at about 6:49 pm on July 26th, Deputy Sheriffs Thomas Corless and Daniel Hunsberger were dispatched to an activated fire alarm at a Stonecrop Lane residence in the Town of Philipstown. While investigating the alarm, deputies observed a quantity of marijuana, located on a bedroom desk in the 30-year-old defendant’s residence. They also found a glass pipe, used to smoke marijuana, sifting on a counter in the bathroom. Deputies charged the man with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a violation punishable by a fine of up to $100. The defendant was released on his own recognizance pending an August 23rd appearance in the Town of Philipstown Justice Court.
