| The America’s Intelligence Wire (March, 2006). I am in favor of the complete lega… I am in favor of the complete legalization of marijuana, since I believe that anything less is just an absurdity. My main point is this: according to the government-funded Monitoring the Future study, one third of college students (almost 6 million people) have smoked marijuana in the last year. So if the marijuana prohibitionists are to be believed, all of these students are criminals. Though the anti-legalization Republicans don’t say so, that implies that they think that one in three Virginia Tech students is a criminal. The College Republicans think that they can somehow justify that. They speak of marijuana as if it is some sort of plague on.

PDEA regional director Bernardo Borrinaga said narcotics agents have
been surveilling Viduya in Kalinga for some time but could not arrest
him because of the presence of communist rebels in the area. The suspect
is allegedly a fugitive who bolted the Benguet Provincial Jail, where
he was serving a sentence for frustrated rape. The day before, lawmen found a box filled with 20 kilos of marijuana
at the roadside in Barangay Lacnog in Tabuk, Kalinga. The narcotics
is believed to be worth P500,000. The police are still hunting down
the person who left the box. The third operation was at Barangay Buyagan in La Trinidad, Benguet,
where a homeowner complained to police that a boarder left marijuana

these seizures will significantly reduce the volume of drugs being supplied
to other areas in the country. While Gonzales admitted that there are still several marijuana plantations
in the region, these are only enough to supply local consumption. Gonzales, on the other hand, disputed impressions that the country
is exporting the illegal plant, saying there has been no seizure of
marijuana from the Philippines in foreign countries.

“We view this case as a gross, gross misuse of tax-payer dollars,”said La Goy’s attorney, Brian Vicente, said outside court afterward. Hestressed that as many as three patrol cars and five police officersresponded to a Capitol Hill apartment on the evening of March 3 afterLa Goy was found to have less than a gram of marijuana while policewere making a probation check on a friend of La Goy’s. Vicente, who heads the marijuana legalization group SensibleColorado, said the Denver police and city attorneys’ continuedprosecution of pot possession flouts the will of voters who in Novemberpassed Initiative 100, which ostensibly made it legal under local lawfor individuals 21 or old to privately possess under 1 ounce ofmarijuana. City authorities maintain that they’ve long prosecuted 95 percentof possession cases under the state law and that the home rule citycannot unilaterally impose local ordinances that are weaker than statelaw. La Goy’s trial date has not been scheduled. © Rocky Mountain News.

Affected by cannabis and fatigue, Brett Leo Foster ignored road signs to slow down and ploughed into a line of cars, killing four people waiting at roadworks on the Murray Valley Highway, 10km east of Yarrawonga on October 15, 2001. Foster, from Canberra, was sentenced to nine-and-a-half years jail, with a minimum of six years and six months after pleading guilty to four counts of culpable driving in December, 2003. The Canberra-based company had pleaded guilty to failing to provide and maintain a safe working environment and failing to ensure non-employees were not exposed to health and safety risks. The court heard Foster’s driving had been affected by cannabis he had ingested shortly before the accident. He had also covered 1195km, mainly around New South Wales over the 24 hours prior to the accident and had not had any sleep over this time. Foster, who joined the company two weeks before the accident, stated that he regularly falsified his log book and felt pressured to do so to retain his job, the court was told. Other employees gave evidence that they worked in excess of the legal time allowances – which require them to have at least 10 hours rest over 24 hours – and this was expected of them. Judge Frank Shelton said he was satisfied the director of the company, David Wallace, was aware that Foster was driving in excess of the legal driving limits, despite his lawyer saying he denied this.
