Dutch children of 12 ‘addicted to cannabis’
The Independent – Independent – Mar 21, 2006
But while the age of regular and dependent cannabis users has dropped sharply in recent years, the dangers and health hazards of soft drugs have been “completely underestimated” by parents caught “in a flower- power time warp”, Dr Romeo Ashruf, an addiction specialist, said. The cannabis that Dutch children take, nederwiet, is produced in Holland and is up to 20 times stronger than imported varieties, he told Network 2′s Bij ons Thuis television programme last night. It was not unusual for children as young as 12 to be addicted to cannabis and referred to drugs clinics by their GPs, said Dr Ashruf. “In years gone by, the age group for referrals was between 16 and 21 but now it has gone down to between 14 and 19,” he said. “Children of 12 and 13 who are addicted to soft drugs are also brought in.

Exeter Crown Court heard the front for the cannabis-growing enterprise was Williams Flowers, a wholesale operation.

Newstalk ZB – Mar 21, 2006
A Civil Aviation Report says it is not possible to determine exactly what caused the glider to crash into a hill near Omarama in January last year. However toxicology tests revealed enough cannabis in the 44 year old pilot’s blood to suggest he had smoked a single joint within three hours of the crash. The report says it is very likely he was still affected by the drug at the time of his death. Canadian “Prince of Pot” Sought By US
Washington Post – Mar 21, 2006
, was online Tuesday, March 21, at noon ET to discuss the recent Post article on his case and his open advocacy of marijuana legalization. Emery, who published Cannabis Culture magazine and runs a bookstore where patrons can get high, has been arrested multiple times in Canada but faces a much longer sentence if he is extradited to and convicted in the U… : Do you think there is an image problem with the legalization movement? Why is it that most of the people who are advocating medical use don’t look like doctors but instead look like 60s leftovers?Marc Emery: I agree, it would be nice to get more suits and fewer cliches attending rallies. But those who have something to lose don’t come to marijuana legalization rallies. If you can be fired, urine tested, suspected as a grower, because newspapers photographed you at a rally, then you won’t get people with jobs, kids, security, status, etc to lose. Why don’t teachers attend rallies? Their job. Why don’t truckers attend rallies for pot? Urine-testing. Why don’t mothers attend? Lose the kids.
