Drug squad officer Det-Sgt Dale Flynn told the court he suspected Giles was supplying cannabis to Barbaro after listening to the call. He said the phone taps revealed the pair arranging to meet after Giles told Barbaro: “That car will probably be ready tomorrow. “That to me is possibly code for a cannabis transaction,” Det-Sgt Flynn told Magistrate Felicity Broughton: “I was aware, or suspicious, that Ms Giles was supplying cannabis to Mr Barbaro. ”
He said he watched from an unmarked police car outside Giles’s house in the Melbourne suburb of West Footscray house as she met Barbaro. The charges all stem from Operation Lotte, set up to net Barbaro. Giles, who had hits with I Have Loved Me a Man, Put Your Hand in the Hand, and Sha La La La Lee , left the court with a man believed to be one of her sons.

Michael Corby was a friend and neighbour of a man being investigated by the Australian Federal Police over a hydroponic marijuana-growing operation, according to a report last night on the ABC’s 7. Mr Corby, who was fined for marijuana possession in the 1970s, reportedly lived next door to the man, named only as “Tony”, in the central Queensland mining town of Middlemount in the mid-1990s. Mr Corby later followed the man 500km to a remote central Queensland farming community where they again were neighbours. Police raided Tony’s property in September 2004 – a month before Schapelle Corby was arrested in Bali – and allegedly found 5kg of high-quality marijuana in vacuum-sealed bags. He was charged with producing and supplying a commercial quantity of drugs. Corby received a 20-year sentence for drug smuggling after 4.
