Hempie’s would not be affected by the moratorium, Ferguson said. In October, the council indefinitely put off an ordinance that would have prohibited dispensaries after an outcry from medical-marijuana advocates. Medical marijuana is legal in California since voters passed Prop. 215 in 1996. Supreme Court ruled in June that people who smoke marijuana with a doctor’s permission could still be prosecuted for violating federal drug laws.

”“We found the basement was separated in three separate grow rooms, one for cloning, a starter room and a mature-plant room,” Loop said. “Each was equipped with the necessary lights, hydroponics and timers. We also found marijuana already weighed and bagged for resale. ”Loop said 306 plants were seized, each capable of producing one pound of marijuana every 90 days. “We found receipts indicating at least 16 months of operation, so there is the potential for great sales,” Loop said. Loop said the operation was likely serving the Louisville metropolitan area and reinforced Henderson’s message about Floyd County’s tough stance against drugs. “We’re dedicated to keeping Floyd County drug free and believe marijuana is the No. 1 illegal drug in the United States,” Loop said. “This year, we already seized 3,000 pounds in one case and the following week another 2,400 pounds were intercepted. This case repeats that message”Police believe Beatty lived alone and there are no other suspects at this time. They also said they were unaware of Beatty having any prior criminal record.

Over the next several weeks, the two spoke on the phone but never met in person, she said. In one conversation, the woman told Turkington that she had been “caught smoking pot in her dorm room,” Walsh said in his affidavit. The officer told her that “he could supply her with marijuana that he had confiscated from narcotics suspects,” the affidavit said. 14, 2004, the woman called Turkington to give her a ride to a hospital where her boyfriend was being treated for intoxication, the affidavit said. On that night, she recalled being “really drunk,” police said.

ALICIA’S STORY CANCER, DESPAIR, HOPE, FAITH
San Francisco Chronicle – Dec 23, 2005
I didn’t have the cravings that I used to, and instead of going to food when I was emotional — like eating a pint of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream when I was sad or munching on Girl Scout cookies when bored — I avoided it. Thierry Jahan, and my nurse practitioner, Natalie Olsen, had given me a prescription for Marinol, the legal pill form of marijuana, along with a “Cannabis Healing Californians” form that allowed me to be a member of a pot club. Both forms of marijuana were to help me eat — to keep my weight stable by getting calories into my shrinking body. I used the Marinol several times in the early fall, mainly because I thought I was keeping my weight stable on my own, then hopped on a scale to find I had dropped 5 pounds in less than a week. The fact that I had no good concept of my weight freaked me out, and I used the Marinol a few times to eat healthy dinners. But that didn’t last long… Thierry Jahan, and my nurse practitioner, Natalie Olsen, had given me a prescription for Marinol, the legal pill form of marijuana, along with a “Cannabis Healing Californians” form that allowed me to be a member of a pot club. To everyone’s chagrin — my dad’s, my surrogate mother’s, my doctor’s, my friends’ — I still wasn’t eating very much because I wasn’t using the Marinol or the pot-club baked goods.

Lebanon: Drug Abuse Increasing Among Country’s Young
RadioFreeEurope/RadioLiberty – Dec 23, 2005
The Drugs Of Choice Sixty percent of the patients at Oum el Nour are heroin addicts. Usually, though, they do not abuse just one substance. More than half of them also abuse cannabis; slightly less than half abuse cocaine. Increasingly popular among poorer addicts are inhalants. Also popular is Dulsana, a Lebanese cough syrup that has a high codeine content and is usually consumed in conjunction with alcohol, and Captagon, the trade name of an amphetamine-like central nervous system stimulant called fenethylline that is, because it is a prescription drug, relatively easy to secure. Drug consumption patterns in Lebanon vary depending on family background and gender, Yazigi says. Usually, in families with more modern mores, a range of substances are abused, with LSD, mushrooms, and Ecstasy being popular.
