Frye supports the "compassionate use" of medical marijuana and said her position, which has remained constant, won't waver in light of the federal court ruling. The short-term health effects of marijuana are inconsequential compared to the long-term effects of criminal records.

Police in Butte County, Calif. , have investigated three such violent incidents during the past two weeks. In one, a group of men stole a dozen marijuana plants and fired a shot at the property owner. In another, a man pulled a gun on a woman when she found him trying to pull her marijuana plants through a wooden fence. And in a third incident, a man set an arson fire as a diversion so he could steal some marijuana plants. “All these medical-marijuana grows have created a target-rich environment,” said Butte County police Sgt.
