mc –>AlterNet. org Looking back, Marc Emery says it was like a scene out of Bonnie and Clyde. The publisher of Cannabis Culture magazine and Canada’s leading marijuana rabble-rouser, Emery was sitting in Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia — the Lawrencetown Restaurant, in fact — getting himself together to speak at a legalization rally. It was July 29, 2005, and the second annual Atlantic Hemp Fest was already in full swing, with bands and speakers organized by Maritimers United for Medical Marijuana already entertaining a crowd of about 400-500 people. Suddenly, the lunchtime crowd vanished. “Then I notice the waitresses getting jittery, and oddly encouraging me to leave in an unfriendly way that you never find on the East Coast,” Emery says.

“There was a tent in one of the canyons adjacent to the grow and there was food and evidence of people living in there. Some of the plants appeared to have been abandoned in the last couple of days. “It is not unusual for marijuana crops to be discovered, but no growers to be found, Fosselman said. “This is the sixth such grow this year and we have not found anyone,” Fosselman said.

The cost of the program will be offset with state HIV prevention funding. The board also approved 4-0 issuing cards to users of marijuana for medicinal purposes, but some board members were concerned the information provided by users to the county could be used by federal officials to prosecute patients. County Counsel Steve Woodside said those who apply for the cards will be told there is no assurance the county’s records will not be subject to search and seizure by federal authorities. Even though Californians approved the use of medical marijuana in 1996, it is still against federal law to possess, cultivate, sell and use it. Supervisor Kerns said he is concerned the card could be abused if it is used as a “get out of jail free card. ” Supervisor Smith said, “the whole situation is ludicrous anyway,” regarding the conflict between state approval of medical marijuana and federal prohibitions against pot… The board also approved 4-0 issuing cards to users of marijuana for medicinal purposes, but some board members were concerned the information provided by users to the county could be used by federal officials to prosecute patients. More than 3,500 plants growing on ranch land in the Milton area were destroyed by Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department narcotics officers on Thursday. The plants ranged from 4 to 10 feet tall, officials said. On Friday, 192 “high-quality” plants were removed from a garden near Donnell Reservoir by Tuolumne County and U… But finding and destroying the plants has been easier than arresting the people who grow them. Of the 405 gardens raided statewide, only 22 people have been arrested, including one in Calaveras County. No one has been arrested for growing marijuana in Tuolumne County so far this year. On Saturday, however, state Fish and Game Warden Josh Nicholas arrested a Mountain Ranch man who was tending 42 marijuana plants south of Calaveras Big Trees State Park. The man, who has yet to be charged, said he was growing the marijuana for his ill wife. The case has been turned over to the Calaveras County District Attorney’s Office for further review. Power said Nicholas was checking on deer hunters and fisherman near McKay’s Dam on the North Fork of the Stanislaus River when he came across a man in a pickup truck with gardening tools.
