Garfunkel busted for marijuana again

Garfunkel,63, half of the legendary ’60s duo Simon and Garfunkel, was pulledover on Sunday by a New York state trooper near Woodstock afterrunning a stop sign, The Daily Freeman newspaper reported onTuesday. Thetrooper’s report of the incident said a strong marijuana odour wascoming from the car and a marijuana cigarette was found in theashtray. Garfunkel,who lives in New York City, was given a ticket and is due to appearin Woodstock Town Court on September 22. In January2004, Garfunkel was charged with unlawful possession of marijuanaafter state police from the same barracks stopped his car forspeeding. He subsequently pleaded guilty and paid a $100 fine and a$100 state surcharge. Garfunkel’s hits with Paul Simon include Bridge Over TroubledWater, The Sound of Silence and Scarborough Fair.

Police raided the Royal Park house about 10am. “We found 31 cannabis plants growing in a shed and, more disturbingly, we found a Taser stun gun,” said Port Adelaide Superintendent Barry Lewis. The arrest of a 33-year-old led police to a second house, rented by the same man, across the road, where they found 19 mature plants. They also seized more than 3kg of dried cannabis head, implements, hydroponic equipment and almost $10,000. Electricity to the two houses had been tampered with, an act in itself that is “sheer stupidity,” Supt Lewis said of the danger it posed. Share this article…

A further search revealed 90 packages of herbal cannabis concealed inside. No arrests have yet been made. Inspector Alan Hughes, from North Wales Police’s eastern traffic division, said: “This is one of the biggest seizures of drugs in transit made in north Wales and this success demonstrates that the routine checking of vehicles can uncover criminal activity. “There is a definite link between vehicles with no insurance and criminal activity. “On this occasion we appear to have disrupted a fairly large drugs trafficking network. “We are not sure where these drugs were destined but I think it’s fair to say they would have ended up on the streets…
